When he was a lowly Senior Programmer slaving away on an internal communication tool for Pied Piper, Dinesh Chugtai could never have known his humble video chat would become something even greater than the compression company itself. As announced by Pied Piper Founder and CEO Richard Hendricks, PiperChat is now its own company with Dinesh Chugtai as CEO.
Chugtai, who is credited with the creation of the video chat application, announced in a statement, “I made vid-chat, and Gilfoyle can suck it.” The revolutionary video chat uses Pied Piper’s groundbreaking compression to deliver astounding picture quality with a sub-150 millisecond delay. Suck it, indeed.
Still in its early stages, PiperChat has proven to be quite sticky, and unlike its struggling predecessor, the video chat app has real, repeat users. Hendricks will remain at Pied Piper, although since the company’s platform failed, what form Pied Piper will take remains to be seen. The Pied Piper founder has stayed positive however, telling me, “I got to keep the name.”
